Alpaca Health helps a BCBA launch and run a practice on its group payer contracts, billing and software, and pays the practice set rates per session. Lumenality is the EHR and practice-management software a practice runs itself, under its own payer contracts, for one flat monthly rate. Here is where each one fits.
Where Alpaca Health fits
- You are a BCBA starting out and want the business handled. Alpaca Health says it sets up your legal entity and handles contracting, credentialing, billing, payroll and denials, and charges nothing to get started.
- You have no payer contracts yet. Alpaca Health credentials new practices under its existing group contracts, typically in weeks, it says.
- You want steady cash flow from the first month. Alpaca Health pays on a fixed two-week cycle at set per-session rates, and says it takes the loss on denials.
- You want families sent to you. Alpaca Health runs national marketing to bring client leads to its providers.
- You practice in Texas, Colorado, North Carolina, Hawaii or Michigan, the five states it lists.
Where Lumenality wins
- You keep what you bill. Lumenality is one flat monthly rate by provider count; Alpaca Health describes its model as taking a percentage of billable revenue and pays set per-session rates from its rate sheet.
- Your payer contracts and NPI are your own. Claims go out under them through the built-in Stedi clearinghouse, and you see every 835 remittance and denial reason yourself.
- You set your own rates with each payer instead of working from a rate sheet, in any state where you hold contracts.

Switching from Alpaca Health
Can you import my data from my current EHR?
In most cases, yes. After we review samples of what your current system can export, we'll tell you exactly what we can bring over — typically client demographics, active authorizations, schedules, clinical history, and billing records. Some sources export cleanly and migration is straightforward; others are messier and a portion of the data needs to be re-keyed or hand-mapped. Either way you'll know the scope and the trade-offs before onboarding starts, not after.
How long does it take to switch?
Most practices go live in about 2 to 6 weeks. That covers the signed agreement and BAA (1 to 3 weeks), a data-migration assessment (up to 2 weeks), and 3 to 5 days of staff training. Go-live itself takes one day.
Is there a trial?
Not a self-serve one, because every practice runs on its own dedicated deployment. Instead, we walk you through the full platform in a live demo before you sign anything. On the call you see a session note become a claim, how authorizations and denials are tracked, and the rate for your provider count.
What happens if I want to leave?
Your data is yours. We provide full data exports — clinical records, billing, and operational data — in standard CSV format on request at any time, not just at exit. If you do choose to leave, the same exports are provided with 30 days notice. No exit fees, no data hostage situations.
